William "Bill" Hurdles 50-60

He has been plagued by alcoholism and other drugs his whole life. He is a functioning alcoholic. At one point in his life, he lost everything because of drugs and alcohol, but with the support of his family, he managed to get back on his feet. They never understood what drove his addictions. He comes from a good family, private schooling parents who loved each other and were married for over forty years. But this time, it's different. His parents have passed, and his children have seen this before and don't want to go down that road again. Except for Elijah, he loves his dad and wants him to get help for his addictions before it's too late.

Elijah Hurdles 30-40

The sight of his dad drinking tears him up inside.   He tries to talk to him about treatment, even offering to take him. But his dad has always lived life on his terms. He feels his wife Sheila is enabling him for her benefit instead of helping him. But can't prove it. He secretly harbors resentment for her.

Sheila Hurdles 45-55

Has been through some tough times in her life. This is the most stable she has been. She and Bill dated for about six months and married. Everyone thought they were moving too fast. But they both were lonely and wanted companionship. Secretly, she didn't marry for love. She married for stability. She encourages Bill to get help for his addiction, but over the years has given up on any hope that he will. She is in "content" mode in her marriage. As much as she would like to grow old with Bill, she sees that door closing more and more each day.

Rose 35-45

Sheila's good friend, Bill, whom she met at work about ten years ago, lived with her for a while. She knew Bill a long time ago and was surprised when he appeared on her doorstep looking for Sheila. Rose has never been married and never wanted kids. But at this stage in her life, she would not mind having a special someone. Secretly, she was jealous when Bill and Sheila got married but kept her feelings inside.
